Creative Ways to Have Fun in Callaway County

Join us as Callaway County shows off its creativity at the Rooster Creek Quilt Show, July 18-20. From bold modern designs to traditional log cabin patterns and everything in between, all the area’s quilting talent will be on display. The show will be held at St. Andrews Church in Holts Summit, and will be open each day from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

Bits & Pieces in the Brick District

When you are sufficiently inspired, head up the road to the sponsor’s shop, Rooster Creek Company in the Summit Plaza shopping center, a virtual heaven for the sewing and quilting enthusiast. They offer quilting materials and supplies, machine quilting and classes available. Stop in and share their love of sewing, quilting and embroidery. You can sign up for the Pinwheel Garden Quilt Class on August 31 while you’re there.

If you’re still feeling creative, make your next stop the Brick District in Fulton for a visit to the new Bits & Pieces on Court Street. Explore their wide selection of fabrics, kits, templates, machines, tools and notions. They’re open Tuesday through Saturday. If you’re already a quilter, come by on Thursdays from 10:30 a.m.-4 p.m. and join their Sit ‘n’ Sew.

Callaway creativity doesn’t start and end with fabrics. If your interests lean more to the painting side, the Garriott Porter Art Studio is a don’t-miss. Enjoy the gallery, the featured artists, stock up on art supplies for your own projects or sign up for one of their classes.

And then, there’s music!

On July 3, relax at a red-checkered table with an authentic Brooklyn style pizza, served with a side of live music from Planet Jazz at Brooklyn Pizza in the Brick District, 6 p.m.-7:30 p.m.

On Fridays, The Station brings live music back to the Brick District. This month, settle in for a boozie slushie on the patio from 7 p.m.-9 p.m. with entertainment from Joseph Beale (July 12), Chloe Hoecker (July 19) and Shannon Cerneka (July 26).

On Saturdays, enjoy woodfired pizza, lakeside and tent seating, and fabulous sunsets during Serenity Valley Winery’s Saturday music series. Join them July 6 for Open Road, July 13 for Those Guys, July 20 for C. Rock City and July 27 for Simple Road.

And if you want a little music that gets more than your toes tapping, head to Kingdom City on Saturdays for 54 Country’s Saturday Night Dance. Dancing lessons are offered at 8:15 p.m., with the band starting around 9 p.m.

It also takes creativity to tickle your funny bone, but comedy night at Canterbury Hill Winery and Restaurant in Holts Summit July 19, 5:30 p.m.-10 p.m. is sure to do the trick. Tickets include a special Jokesters Gone Wild dinner menu, dessert, and signature cocktail as well as admission to the show.

When it comes to getting creative, Callaway County is  “sew”, SO fun!
