Savor the Callaway
Summer is for foodies here in Fulton and Callaway County. There are so many good things to eat and drink, and so little time! Here is a rundown of some of our favorites.
Carnivores can find locally sourced meats at Fulton Wurst Haus & Butchery. Be sure to check out their selection of house made brats. The Barnyard Smokehouse restaurant next door has great Sunday specials.
Feeling a bit more adventurous? Many Callawegians will tell you that when it comes to BBQ, you have to try the tangy taste of mutton. In fact, we have a series off community events built on the mutton tradition. The first event on the Callaway County Mutton Trail is the Fulton Street Fair, June 21 and 22.
The 4th generation Crane’s Country Store in Williamsburg sells 1-meat, 1-cheese sammies for $2. Be sure to grab a bag of locally-made Backers Potato Chips to go with it.
Fulton’s downtown Brick District has lots of tasty options in a four square block area.
Ms. Kim’s Fish & Chicken Shack serves cooked to order chicken, fish and soulful sides.
Brooklyn Pizza is widely known for authentic Brooklyn style pizza. (Yeah the owners really are from Brooklyn, and they are proud of their pies.)
For a Latin twist, check out the made-from-scratch, real deal, Cuban lunch specials at the Fulton Cafe.
If a great beers, fine wines and a chef-driven menu is more your jam, Beks gastropub is a regional favorite. Be sure to save room for their house-made desserts.
If all this food leave you a bit thirsty, we’ve got your covered.
Did you know that elderberries are a native product? You can sample the distinctive juice, wine and elderberry cocktails at ElderBlossom View Orchard & Winery located in the countryside near New Bloomfield.
Serenity Valley Winery near Millersburg offers a variety of wines made on premise. Their Saturday music series offers live music paired with a featured food truck, from 4 - 7 pm, every Saturday, May - October.
Canterbury Hill Winery and Restaurant in Holts Summit has a blufftop patio with a stellar view of the Missouri River valley and the state capitol building across the river in Jefferson City.
If you are more of a cocktail fan, be sure to stop to see the folks at The Station in Fulton’s Brick District. Choose one of their boozie slushies to enjoy on the fabulous, umbrella-covered patio. Your designated driver might enjoy a lemonade from The Spot food stand next door, or a tasty “Go-Jo” coffee drink from Go-Po Gourmet Popcorn bar located just across the street.
Shew, there are too many other options to mention. We suggest you start planning your trip, so you don’t miss a single bite or sip.
